It's Alive

A very big milestone today as we have finally gotten all of the parts together, turned on the beast and heard it roar.  I must admit that despite my usual abundance of overconfidence, I had doubts about this one as I poured through piles of schematics and cut wires from harnesses and seemingly arbitrarily spliced away ("Is that wire really not needed???").  All-in-all a very sweet day.  (By the way Muddy, thank Megan for the shoes, they saved my shins an several occasions).

Every engine swap builds to this same moment of euphoria followed by a long list of small details that must get finished.  From here we move beyond the big questions...
  1. Was the engine really working even though we couldn't start it when we bought it?
  2. Can Sparky really splice a pile of wires into something that won't catch fire every time we turn on the car?
  3. Is hammering things out of the way to get the transmission to fit really not a problem?
  4. If two cars that don't run in your backyard might mean your a redneck, what happens when one of them actually starts?
Into the land of punch-lists to get ready for the race.  Here is the electrical list, feel free to add more in the comments.
  1. Find some spare parts, currently have none
  2. Try to add the Z32 fuel pump controller
  3. Fix the Nissan Consult so we can plug in a laptop
  4. Wire up the Data and Video
  5. Put my notes into something to take trackside (not that anything will fail...)
  6. Find some lights and mount and wire them
  7. Need a connector for the fan, and wire to the relay

  1. Sparky nice work. Yes, this was (is) a big big job and we are well on the way to having us ready to run.

The punch list is big so I'll add it to a new posting.
