LeMons: YOU'RE IN! Arse-Freeze-Apalooza

#24HoursofLeMons     #BecauseRoadkill
Hi, Muddy:
Half-Life Racing (Seize-Z-um) and (Ra-D-um) has been officially ACCEPTED for Arse-Freeze-Apalooza at Sonoma Raceway, Sonoma CA onDecember 03 - December 04(Multiple entries? Log in to see what got in and what didn't.)
If you're racing, you must read this email completely!
1) FINISH YOUR INFO: Your team's current status is Not Ready to Race. If you're not showing "ready to race," log on here and fix what's missing. (In case you need it, here's a step-by-step guide to the reg process.)
2) PRINT A TECH SHEET and inspect your car against every line. Bring your signed, filled-out Tech Sheet to Tech at the track, and remember--not every rule is reflected on the Tech Sheet. You still need to study the full LeMons Rulebook.
3) READ THESE NOTICES:
EVENT SCHEDULE, CAMPING, DIRECTIONS, ETC: Look for these on this race's Event Page--when we learn something new, we'll update it there.

DRIVER-SAFETY GEAR: FULL SFI 38.1-RATED HEAD-AND-NECK UNITS ARE NOW MANDATORY! To see helmets, suits, head-and-neck units, and all the other required crap at sponsor-subsidized rates, visit LeMons' online store.

RACE #s: If the number you want isn't available on your Team Home Page's pulldown menu, somebody else already has it. Pick another one.

RULESThe LeMons Rulebook has been updated! Read the complete Rulebook (http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/prices-rules) now and re-check it often, refreshing your browser each time. Remember, it's your job to know this stuff!
DROPOUTSThere are no refunds or fee transfers! When you enter a race, you're buying the right to compete--not a guarantee that you'll get your own act together. If you drop out, can't finish your car, blow up, go broke, catch swine flu, step on your own wiener, or otherwise fail to avail yourself of your grid spot, you forfeit your entry fees. That's why they're called "entry" fees, not "I got to drive the whole race" fees.

4) COUGH UP YOUR ENTRY FEE: Your entry fees are due now--all fees must be paid in full by 10/22/2016. Miss that deadline, and your spot may be given to a team on the waitlist. (Need to beg an extension? Drop Nick an email before the due date.) To check your current balance or pay online, see your Team Home Page at https://registration.24hoursoflemons.com/members/races/registration/signup_id/15438.
TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD, use the "Pay Now" button on your Team Home Page at https://registration.24hoursoflemons.com/members/races/registration/signup_id/15438.
TO PAY BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER, make payable to "24 Hours of LeMons" and mail to LeMons Dept. of Up-Coughing, 5675-C Horton St, Emeryville CA 94608.

Ares-Freeze Prep

We were able to evaluate the cars today.  In an amazing outcome, the cars are in good shape.  In the compression test, outlined below, the engines appears to have survived and able to run another day.

We did take a few knocks.  The D had its front shortened, and we spent some time to pull that out:

The Z also received some attention with banging out the door damage and blowing the silt brought back from Buttonwillow.

In all we found very little gross wrong.  This means we can get into the fine details and start working off the general checklist.

2017 Race Schedule

Through some sleuthing, I was able to find the 2017 24-hour Lemons Racing schedule.  This is a final, but Lemons HQ has not officially announced.  So, at this time we only know the place and date of the event.

Below, I have listed all the races.  As for the list it is filled with the normal array of events.  Reviewing the list, there are 8 races in west.  Three of them are in AZ, CO, and WA, so will not be targeted (sorry, Hammer).  That leaves 5 in CA.  Of the 5, three are straight forward, and I have marked in Green.  The race in July at Thunderhill, well the name, Arse-Sweat-Apalooza, says it all and holds no interest in my part.  The final one in Red, is the one of true intrigue.  I have not talked to Half-Life Racing HQ about any of this, and it will take some lobbing to push past 3 races a season, so let me know if there is interest.

Last driver change

The cars are running well and the drivers are staying out of trouble (knocking wood). Both cars were positioned in the teens when they came in.  Gases them up, put in Lugnut and torch and sent them out.  Both should be able to run to the checker.

Checker flag

We finished up 15th and 23rd. Lugnut managed the fast lap in the Z on the last lap of the race. Nicely done!

And that's how the program goes off the rails

The cars where one lap apart when these drivers went into the cars. However...

Lugnut came in first after helping another car go faster by giving it a shove. The front of the Miata is a little shorter now but nothing critical was damaged. Lugnut said it was down in power and it seems that problem was a cracked intake that we patched.  Once done we sent him how to check things and if working finish his session.

While Lugnut was in the pits, muddy called in on his way to the penalty box. He got a slap on the wrist for an off track excursion. I'm sure it's a good story and we'll hear it in a bit :-)

Anyways, both cars are back out and turning circles.

Lunch time

We have now been through 3 drivers changes. Only one black flag to report on the Z and the two cars are within a lap of each other in 19th and 20th place.

Race day 2

Yesterday we had no black flags and finished up 18th and 22nd. Everyone is feeling pretty happy about that. There were some dents to remove by the end of the day.  Nothing Muddy's new hammer couldn't solve.

So last night we changed the brake pads, replaced the oil, replaced the tires and hammer some fenders and are now ready to go.

Since the race order seemed to work yesterday, we are doing the same order today minus some time since the day ends at 3:30 not 5:00.

Celebration time

Tonight we are celebrating Z-Mom's retirement.  We had a bacon and sausage creation as an appetizer. Coenishish game hens for dinner and champagne to celebrate!

Last driver change

The cars are running well and the drivers are staying out of trouble (knocking wood). Both cars were positioned in the teens when they came in.  Gases them up, put in Lugnut and torch and sent them out.  Both should be able to run to the checker.

Race update

The first two drivers had clean runs and now we are on the third stint for each car.  The D is currently 2 laps up on the Z and was in 15th at the last pit stop. Pit stops are a little slow for us, so each car drops 6 laps or so at a pit stop and then we climb up the rankings again.

The weather is much better today and we are all hoping it continues.

Lunch was lamb and pita's.  Yum

Race day 1

We are a short crew today, so we'll get long stints in both cars.

We got everything out together last night.  We are getting the cars on track. With Muddy in the D and Queen in the Z.

The oil leak in the D was an o-ring for the oil cooler. In a horrible place to get to.  Torch and Lugnut got it eventually and we think the car is all sealed up again and ready to go.
