Possible New Arrival Schedule

There has been rumbling by the Lemons' staff that some accommodations for track access before the Saturday 6:00am were being looked out. Looking on the website, there is known some confirmation. It appears, they will open the back parking lot for the Friday night. Knowing that there will be 180 cars entered into this race, it might be prudent to have a few of us take advantage of this.

Here is the post on the Lemon's website:

SCHEDULE
Friday, 6 December 2013
  • 6pm-10pm Competitor staging in Lot 2 on the hill. No paddock access until 6am Friday morning, but you can hang out on the hill overnight.

More later if when we get updates.

And Then There Was 12 Days

We had a busy last two days working on the car. Tow an I put the final touches on the need to have with the replacement on the loose half shaft bolts and a few checklist issues. The biggest achieve of the day was work done by Tow Junior. I think he completed an unrelated science project as he used the quiet of the house and the reward of firing up the car when he finished.

Today, Torch and I polished off the rest of the mechanical checklist. We even got a test drive in. THe test drive did uncover some issues including; lunching hood pins (Torch I have found both), new rattles from underneath ( most like the exhaust system), new click when changing gears (we think the clutch slave), leaving tire marks as I locked up unbiased cold rear tires (just work out a flat spot), and basically disappointing the neighbors to the trash that lives in their neighborhood.

As for additional work, there is the touch painting, completion of the idiot light system, and general loading, before we can hit the track. So, in the end, I think the car is ready to enjoy Turkey and have a nice run afterward.

Emergency Stop System

Well, we figured out Vodden the Hell we are doing at Thunderhill.  We melt down motors.  Of the 5 races, we have run at this track, we have had four race induced terminal motor failures.  Since the total motor loss count now stands at 5, it is clear that for us, Thuderhill is an engine killer.

How do we address this? Plagiarism.

During a walk-through of the Thunderhill padlock several teams, (normally the top teams) run a simple driver caution light system. This light system is connected to several critical sensors that get illuminated when terminal reading occurs.  How do we do that?

Well, Sparky to the rescue.  He now has a working plan to get a light system for the Z.  The system will be a display dominated by a large red light with four indicating lights like shown below:

On the technical side, the light trigger system are currently set by conditions indicated in the chart:

Event LED Color Trigger Range
Low Oil Pressure Red < 7 psi
Low Voltage Orange < 12.4 volts
High Water Temp Yellow > 225 deg
Low Water Temp Blue < 120 deg

We'll see if this helps, with the next Thunderhill race planned next September.
