Whose fault?

Caught this one earlier today at the penalty box. There was a bit of debate about whose black flag this one was.

All that work and it still looks factory fresh

Muddy’s new front end is all intact after a very wet weekend.  4 checkers and everyone is happy.

Last driver change

Both cars have been running well both in the wet and now the drying conditions. We are making our final drivers changes for the weekend with Lugnut into the D and Torch into the Z as we push for a diamanté free weekend.  The Z is running up around 22nd place and the D a bit further back.

Zoom zoom.

And here comes the rain

The rain stayed away most of the morning, but it decided now was the time to come down hard.  We got some fast laps in, but we are now back to full wet conditions.

And they are off.

Both cars are on the track waiting to start the day.

Day 2

The weather forecast calls for intermittent rain, but we are starting the day cold and clear.  All fingers are crossed hoping it stays clear-ish. Both cars are in good shape as the only incidents yesterday involved mud and not hard surfaces.

Day 1 wrap up

Both cars are back in the pits with no new paint donated for any other cars.  Given a day where it rained all day and lots of cars towed out of mud and walls, that is really good news.  The Z ended up with 101 laps and the D with 90.  Time to check over the cars and finish up the prime rib in the smoker.

Both drivers came out in the end wishing all cars had lights as they said a couple of car lengths away and the other cars just disappeared into the mist.  Still a wet day at the track is better than not being at the track.

The 12 laps of lemons.

I was minding my own business when I realized the Z was turning laps but the D was not.  I wandered over to the penalty box and saw my teammates having a ‘discussion’ with the judges.  Turns out either Lugnut or Queen got a black flag, and they were figuring out what constitutes a spin.

Anyhow, the team penalty was caroling the ‘12 laps of lemons’ then Lugnut could get in the car and go racing again.  Sorry to report I do not have video of us in our Santa hats belting out ‘5 bent piston ringggggs’ and so on.

In good news both cars are in great shape with all fenders intact.  Even if Queen claims a caught spin should not count as a spin if you stay on the track.

Warm in the RV

When the drivers remember to turn it on we have telemetry on the Z. You can find the data here.

While there are a lot of yellow flags for cars off the track. We are staying warm (when the generator is working- but that is another story) in the RV

Got both cars to the track!

Both cars started (the Z’s battery was not ready to start) and are now queued up on grid.  Waiting for the green flag.

Cold and wet start to day 1

We are all set to run with both cars. While yesterday was mostly clear, today is wet and cold.  We are short a couple of drivers so they will be long stints today as well.

Off to the drivers meeting and then we’ll get the cars on the track.

Looking promising

So far so good. Muddy is turning laps and things seem to be working well.

Time to run some practice laps

Muddy is heading out to the track. We think we have the radiator working.  We have telemetry up and running so we’ll know how it is going here in the pits.

And we have our first problem.

It is a cold morning here at the track. So we set about warming the car up after unloading it. While the car got warm, the radiator did not.  So we’ll figure out how to get the air out of the system.
