November 20-21 Work Weekend

We had a very good work weekend. Claus, Rod, Tony and I poured over the car for a good 6 hours, and many of the Punch List items where completed. A lot of the required items to get the car on the track where completed and we quickly got to to some the secondary list, like the brake dust covers, front sway bar, front strut support, and other nagging items. It is always a good sign when the bumper and hood get put on.

However, we ran into a big problem at the end the day when we dropped the car and started for a test run. The car was running rough and not holding the idle at all. Rod quick determined we lost a cylinder. Oh no, not again!!! It was identified that the the connector to a coil is loose and preventing the spark plug to fire. We have a few options, so it should not be long before get that one back, but man if we keep doing this we should think about running an Audi 5. Nice to find this one now and all in all a good work weekend.

Thank you all for the effort.

November 20-21 Work Weekend

This Weekend, November 20-21, is open for work on the car.  Does anyone have time and what day makes the most sense?  I am open to any and all.  The work that I know needs to be done is outlined in the previous blog Punch List.

The second note of this blog is that we would like to introduce you to our new blog site.  It is laid out like a more traditional blog site with the primary page and comments listed in the link.  It is not perfect, but free is good, very good.  One big problem I have with it is that pushing of e-mails is harder. If you got to this by a link from a e-mail, that tells me my test worked and hopefully we can continue this in the future.

Let me know day and time people have to work.
Enjoy

Successful work day

I Tried to finish up all of the electrical issues today.  While I intended to take the day off work, I ended up with 6 hours of phone calls, with more I need to do tonight.  That plan didn't work so well.  I did get to spend a lot of time with Doug in the late morning through through the afternoon and things are much better on the car so I guess it worked out.

For starters, the electrical punch list is down to minor items, with the consult being the only critical one.  Since we didn't have the parts, we got nothing done there.  At least this isn't mandatory to go racing, but it is a very nice capability to be able to talk to the ECU and see what it is "thinking".

Arse-Freeze Punch List

With 12 days to go the punch list is long and on quick glance daunting. However, we should be able to knock several of these out quickly.

It's Alive

A very big milestone today as we have finally gotten all of the parts together, turned on the beast and heard it roar.  I must admit that despite my usual abundance of overconfidence, I had doubts about this one as I poured through piles of schematics and cut wires from harnesses and seemingly arbitrarily spliced away ("Is that wire really not needed???").  All-in-all a very sweet day.  (By the way Muddy, thank Megan for the shoes, they saved my shins an several occasions).

No joy yet in electrical land

After spending the evening reconnecting everything, I must admit I'm a few cables short of a full car.  Feel free to consider that my mental state or the car's as you see fit.

Must be an electrical problem...

We'll since the engine went back in the and the harness had been transplanted, it should have been time to fire this sucker up.  Unfortunately the dash is still at my house being modified to undo some of the confusion and chaos that the wiring had become.  Between all the Z31 and Z32 mayhem this car has seen, things had definitely taken a turn for the worse and a near miss between power and the chassis put a fine point on the need for fuses at the next race (and gave me a new nickname).

I managed to finish enough this weekend that Tuesday night I'll head up to Doug's house and see if we can put it all together.  With any luck it will turn over and we'll be a big step closer to driving again.
