Finally, Oh Happy Days.

I got home from work today, and I found Sparky busily work on trouble shooting our starting problems.  After several checks, we said, “What the Heck!” and try to get the engine to start.  First go, was an emphatic no.

We then started the tinkering.  After many attempts (I lost count) and trying several variations, we got this:

Yes!!!!!!

What worked was a mix of things.  First, we are running the 2003 manual transmission ECU.  If we are going to do this long term, we have some changes to make.  The biggest one is to changing out the O2 sensors to the 2003 types.  We also grounded out the neutral pin since we have a automatic transmission harness and that signal is missing.  The plan now is to add into the harness the transmission switches, to make starting more routine.  This all seem easier than continuing to bang our heads against the two other ECU which we where hoping to use.  As for the White Smoke, it is clear that the majority of that was exhaust smoke.  Running it a little more extensively, than last week, the smoke lessened, and was clearly coming out of the tail pipe.  (There was so much smoke that we broke at that point for a nice dinner Cindy was calling us too, and also allowed the smoke to clear.)  Now we do have an exhaust leak at either the O2 sensor or exhaust manifold, but that is lot better than thought.  The other trouble was the blowing of the ECU and alternator fuses.  The cause of that is not clear.  We are hoping it was the older alternator that we switched out, so will will see.

As for work, we are not out of the woods yet.  We will have a return of Sparky tomorrow (and the next night, and the ... until done).  Between, his work and me putting in the Radiator, we should be able to run the engine to temperature to see if we have other issues.

So, for tonight all is well!
