We are lucky to get both cars into this up coming Arse-Freeze Alapolooza race. We last ran them in the potential Guinness Book of World Record race at Thunderhill.
However, like always the heat and our drivers are not friendly to our cars. For example; the oil goes in looking like a fine Mead and comes out as watery and dark as American version of Guinness. Begin that this was also the Z's first race, we know there was a laundry list of issues. On the second day the pre-driving instruction sums it up nicely:
- The gas pedal needs modulation. Full throttle only results in a hesitation condition.
- Front rotors are warped so breaking is an adventure.
- Over heating occurs so watch the temperature gauge and back off when the needle gets 3/4 of the way up on the gauge.
- Steering rack seals are blown given the car a wicked vibration in high pressure turns.
- Transmission is suffering, so double clutching and rev matching is needed.
Besides that have fun.
The report when the driver came back was that it drove like a tractor. In the end, the clutch problem gave us the most trouble. The Z was sidelined for a few hours. The answer laid in a classic Nissan patch in how they designed the bleed system for the clutch. The high point bleeder is forward of the front right wheel well. Who know? Once the bleeding was completed, the clutch improved. Ultimately, we did make it through with both cars on track to take the checker flag.
On to the repairs, the MiaDa made out fairly well. Oil changes, water coolant exchange, and air filter blowout was the bulk of the work. For the Z, not so lucky. The motor is terminal. So, we went to our old Z31 and started the work on exchanging the motor.

So, we are just now working on the finishing touches.
Besides the motor swap, the other work was fairly light and straightforward. We will see how wise this move is. So, with that we hope for a fair residual value.
