Sunday Work Weekend

Work has continued on the new chariot. On Saturday Rod, Brendan, and I continued the stripping of the Miata and work started on the conversion to a Type-D. As part of the stripping several fun parts were pulled and placed on Craiglist. The tally of sold parts now is at $156.02 and 9 bags of Jelly Beans!

The conversion to the Type-D is well on its way. The rear fin is shaping up well.

Work continued on Monday. Sparky and family stopped in for a quick lunch. Sparky and Sparky Jr started the work untangling the electrical system. Early signs are encouraging, but the nagging questions, like "can it start" are still there.

As for the next work weekend, we are looking at this next Sunday, September, 11. It sounds like we will have a good crowd, so I'll see if Z-Chef is up to wiping something up for us. As for tasks there are several goals.
1) Work on D- Continue the conversation to a type-D.
2) More Work on D- Look through the car for any additional stripping opportunities.
3) Chop up Goddie.

Yes, you read that right. As a promise to Z-Chef, it is now time to reduce the amount of lawn art that is around. So, it is time for goddie to be chopped, parts removed, and then removal of the carcass. I will be here all day, so come anytime to help or watch the fun.

Parts Sales Man

Well we sold our first few parts to this guy:

He took the Car Jack, AC controller, and Driver doors latch cover.

Here is the take:
$15 not bad. We now have $83.98 to go....

Excellent the radio and speakers just sold for $20.

$63.98 left to go

Miata Conversation to a Type-D

Lugnut and I did some work on the Type-D Mazda today. To start, I was delayed as a result of Soccer game. By the time I got back to the garage, Lugnut had started the process of clearing the shop and getting it ready for the second occupant. Here is the last look of the car as a Miata.

We then set our ratchets to left, got out the screw drivers, and an empty coffee can, then started from the back of the car and worked our way to the front. Here is the aftermath:
After a full day of striping you get a pile like this.

From this there are a few gems. For starters here is the small pile of change found on the floor boards.

$1.02 was collected which is great, but not enough.

Then about nine items have been pulled that might be worth something on the open market (i.e. Craiglist). Here is where I ask for your help. We need to move a few items! Though Thrown Rod got the car for a great deal, we need about $100 to be within the lemon rules. So, if you know anyone that could use some Mazda Car parts for their car or simply as memento, that would get great.

Here is the list of parts that I think may move and I have linked the Craiglist posting.

Type D to be

So here is the new car.

Since a Miata is one of the most raced cars in the world our automatic "you guys must suck 300zx, good luck finishing" tech inspections are going to get a LOT harder.  To that end we must do a good bit of extra work to make the car into something the judges will approve of.  We have started with a really ratty car, but the vision is to turn this...

Into something more like this.  Amazing what some spray foam, fiberglass and paint can do to a car.

Here it is, the first picture

Without a doubt, the car is in Lemon's shape to start with.  I give Rod bonus points for finding a car that was in drivable shape and more important, I understand there are some spare parts that he dropped off in the garage that still need to be bolted on.  They say it is best to pick up someone else's incomplete project when starting one of your own, and whatever is in the spare parts box, this car hasn't seen any love in a while.

To make this car feel right at home with Ruby, it is the right amount of faded red (no wax here, so the rattle can paint will stick well), and has a nice dent at the right front wheel.

More later after Muddy gets home tomorrow.

Guess the new ride

This just showed up in my inbox and Rod doesn't have everyone's email so I'm hoping this gets to the whole team.

While Muddy is away, Rod deposited a new ride on his doorstep. Thing is, Muddy doesn't know what it is that he just bought.  Time to start guessing. I'll swing by on my way home Monday and see if I can add an equally mysterious photo to go with the text.

It is Done...

Ruby has a new friend.

For themes, I'm thinking Bizzaro Bee (homage to the Killer Bees MGB), "The Graduate" ala Dustin Hoffman, or if we are lazy, "Mini Ruby"
