Car Assessment Post Arse-Freeze

The final result for our run at Arse-Freeze was the D finishing at 110th and the Z 32nd.  Out of 180 teams, I'll let you judge the result.  For my goals, as a result of a lot of team work we finished each days with cars running.  That is a win for us.

However, it was at a high price.  Both cars took several hits, and it will take some time to go through them thoroughly.  So, with that the post race assessment has started.

For starters Torch has taken a part the initially used differential in the D.  It is   terminal.  He has sent pictures and if you are not into car gore I recommend, you turn away now.

The fluid draining out should not be grey.

 Those blades on the gears should not be shiny and flattened.

More blades that should not be shiny on the lower gear.

As we go along with this process, I'll provide updates on the butchers bill.

We had both cars running at the end!  I don't know where they placed as I was in the D when we finished and the timing app was down before I could check. 

The D is missing some more parts. Lugnut claims to not know what happened, just driving around the track he saw the bumper on the side of the track. Given all the repairs to be done, it may not matter.  

We are all thrilled to have gotten things back together not once but twice and had a nice weekend. 

 

And Again The D Comes Back!

After an hour long heroic fix that will be appreciated throught the Zlime blog sphere, the D is back.  Bumped and Brused but back with Lugnut sheepherding or floging your choice and if all goes well will get Sparky also in at the end.  

 

All Was Well Until...

After all the troubles of yesterday and the off track issues we thought we were in the clear.  Two full stints and working on a third for the D ans Z and all was well. 

Until the Radio crackeled and the report came from the D that we had no Drive. The car came in under tow with a disinct clunk, cat-hunk from the rear.  

A quick check and was determined to be the differental.  A few looks between teammates a look at the clock and oh well, the spare differental is at hand.  

The team quickly jumped on the trouble and the race is on to spare a stint and some dignity of the D. 

 

Mid day update

I haven't been paying much attention to the race. After a rough start yesterday we were pretty low in the standings. Happy to report a completely clean morning so far and moving by up nicely. 

 

The truck is done, but I'll end up with a double stint at the end of the day as I needed time to make sure the truck would get us home. That is done and tested.  Looked a bit ugly with a bunch of relays and switches, but there should be plenty of current capability and the stock wiring didn't have to get changed, so when we have a new switch it should all go together easily. 

 

Race day 2

Rough start to the morning. 

In good news the cars are ready to go. The D is worse for wear and has big camber issues we could hammer out, but it is running and should be good for the day. The Z has no new issues and is running nicely. We did oil and brakes and that pretty much covered it. 

 

The bad news is someone tried to steal Muddy's truck from the hotel parking lot. After failing to cut through the drivers door, they succeeded on the passenger's door. Then they took out the ignition switch.  Thankfully they failed there but did mess things up badly. 

The key sort of works and sometimes falls out. So that has to get sorted before we drive home. 

I'm going to try and get rid of the ignition switch in a way that can be repaired easily by the shop. 

 

 

Two checkers

Exceedingly happy to have two checkers today as we weren't sure we would make it, but both cars wrapped up the day.

The prime rib is just about done, so we'll eat before working on the cars, but we have a bit to do.
